Sure, his past season wasn’t one of his best, but you have to admit that he adds to the ‘Canes defense and has contributed heavily during thieir ‘02 and ‘06 runs. The issue I have with Avery’s idea of “marketing” is that if you start having “heels and faces” like pro wrestling does, then that opens the door to eventual scripting of things like, say, the playoffs. Either that _or_ you’ll have guys engaging in cheap shots and thuggery in juniors, in the foolish hope that it will get them noticed by the NHL as some “marketable bad guy” type. Either possibility would be pretty bad for the NHL in the long term. :/

That, and he has no fashion sense at all. Of course, I say this as somebody who wears red and lime-green together so….

Hi Queen! great article. I generally loathe and detest Sean Avery, but I have to agree with him about the NHL’s poor job of marketing and this:

In a nutshell: TSB’s owners had a terminal case of HUA Syndrome and decided that when they switched webhosts they didn’t have to make sure that all the requisite informations (like, for example, domain name and so forth) were forwarded to their new webhost.

The old webhost is now out of business, and the domain has been snapped up by a squatter.

Hi AQ. I was at that Canes-Pens game. I’m a huge Pens fan from WNC and it was my first chance to see them live. I gotta tellyou…Canes fans are some of the nicest people I’ve ever been around at any sporting event. My son and I were both wearing Pens stuff, along with one of my son’s friends from NCSU, and everybody was as nice as can be. One guy even smiled and patted me on the back after the 4th goal and told me “better luck next time”. Maybe I just got lucky that night, but what a first impression! I don’t see any reason not to like 2 NHL teams. I KNOW this is an awful late comment on a Feb post, but it IS August. Greets!

As I stated a few threads down, I see why the SE takes the shit that it does for the on-ice product, but I don’t agree that it’s a reflection on the hockey markets so much as the hockey people: either they’ve fucked up or they’ve had horrible luck. However you choose to look at it, contracting a team because it sucks is not the right move. If a team is winning like it’s going out of style and playing before an arena with as much excitement as the pre-2007 United Center, then we can talk about movement, but the closest we’ve come to that scenario in recent years is Nashville, and again, that team has not won a playoff round yet in its existence.

Actually, it was a different toolbag who interviewed DeCock, but same site.

We had a pretty good discussion going on, despite the “crying”. (68 comments and climbing) Plus the “editor” toolbag in question has agreed to come to a game and party with us. Maybe some good will come out of this afterall. *S* Sorry you don’t approve.

Some of us can choose to sit back and roll our eyes, or some of us can choose to call out a cheap shot when it’s a cheap shot. To each our own. *shrugs*
