Finally, after two years of begging pleading and anger from the fanbase, Chairman Mo has been deposed…again.

In his place comes Kirk Muller–who, unlike Chairman Mo, has a Cup ring and actual experience as a coach.

Like the first time, I’m thrilled about this. This org really needs to take a good long look at itself and really decide to make decisions that need to be made to bring it on a nightly basis–even if they don’t win a Cup or go super-deep in the playoffs every year, the fans in this area will reward a team that is actually TRYING to get shit done. They also appreciate accountability. Mo didn’t have it. Captain Kirk, OTOH, does.

Of course, given the “all of this has happened before, and it will happen again” nature of this organization, this does beg the question:

When will Chairman Mo come back like a chronic yeast infection?

I hope that question never gets answered.

Next game tomorrow at home against the Florida Panthers. Can’t wait to see how the team responds.

People I know, places I go, make me feel tongue-tied
I can see how people look down, they’re on the inside
Here’s where the story ends
People I see, weary of me showing my good side
I can see how people look down
I’m on the outside
Here’s where the story ends
Ooh here’s where the story ends

–”Here’s Where The Story Ends”, by The Sundays

I’d been putting this off for some time, but since the season is about to start I guess I’d better get it done sooner rather than later.

The blog is done.

Why?

Without going into much detail: My current employment has me in a unique situation. I’m in a good job, for a good employer, with good benefits and good pay. HOWEVER: that employer has a vested interest in certain things that I’m not at liberty to discuss. I won’t even tell you who I work for, because I don’t want people to think that I’m speaking in any way for that employer.

That said, I have a very real risk of getting dooced, because of my scintillating personality and because anything I say about, say, Versus or DirecTV or Center Ice or FoxSports or FlyersTV or TWC or the N&O or anything else could, if it gets back to my overlings, be construed as not being pleasantly reflective of my employer.

I’d hoped that DaveG would be able to make regular posts here about ‘Canes prospects and drafting and so forth, but he’s got precious little time for it and I don’t think it’s fair to him to expect regular things from him. And so it comes to this.

It’s been a fun ride, but now I gotta get off the highway and find a nice place to park.

Until later.

Keep it surreal, my friends.

Honestly, I really don’t care about the fawning over Crosby–it’ll pass, in time, and I ignore a lot of the mediocy that goes on anyway. Orpik, I don’t care about anymore. Cole has let it go, so I’ve let it go. The annoyingness of most of their fans, eh.? They’ll settle down rather than act like entitled jagoffs that don’t know shit about their own team and can’t take congrats without showing their asses.

Good job, Pens. You played well when it counted most, and you’ve got your vengeance. Enjoy your offseason…and enjoy having a target on your collective backs again.

Hail the Penguins!

Hail the Penguins!

Have a drink on me, boys.

Is that subject line crass?  Of course. Is it coarse?  Yes. But it’s also deserved.

Bill Wirtz has finally shrugged off this mortal coil. Condolences to his family, but I’m going to be what some would consider insensitive and say “Hell, it’s about time!”

All you have when you leave this world is your reputation, and Bill Wirtz leaves behind a completely asstastic one–unless of course you’re one of the many Illinois legislators that the man bought to get laws passed in Illinois that favor Judge & Dolph, Ltd. (his liquor distribution concern). The only good thing that man ever did for hockey was try to get the NHLPA to take away David Frost’s agent certification after Mike Danton got arrested and the true nature of Frost’s evil was finally revealed for the world to see. Other than that, all he’s done is take an historic franchise (the Blackhawks) and singlehandedly run them into the dirt–and all for the sake of profit.

Home games during the regular season?  Not seen on TV until Bristol finally stood on their TV contract with the NHL and insisted that pressure be brought to bear on Wirtz to allow their cameras in the United Center–and even then Wirtz was grudging at best about it. After ONE home game, that was it–nothing except for playoffs (again, because of a league-wide contractual obligation).

(I can’t even believe I just defended Bristol. I must be getting old or something.)

How many good players had the Hawks lost because Wirtz didn’t want to pay them?  Jeremy Roenick, Chris Chelios, Dominik Hasek, Phil Esposito, and even Drunkie Belfour (back when he was good) come to mind immediately, but the list is longer than that. Steve Sullivan found himself traded to Nashville for a bag of pucks when he publicly hinted that Wirtz hadn’t given accurate information to the auditors that the NHL hired pre-Ragnarok. Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull want nothing at all to do with the team, because of the way Wirtz has roont it in pursuit of filthy lucre. All that man cared about was profit. He, like Boston’s Jeremy Jacobs, were (and in Jacobs’ case, still are) a blight upon the landscape–far more than any franchise south of the 40th Parallel, in my opinion. And I mourn the thought that the son will more than likely be no better than the father.

It’s at times like this when I wish I had a billion dollars, so I could buy that team and give those poor fans in Chicago so much better than they’ve gotten for the last 46 years. They deserve it. They so deserve it.

Good Riddance, Dollar Bill.
