After watching Russian Hockey games this year, I absolutely can tell no difference between the Europeans/Swedes/Fins,Canadian players, etc. I think goalie Riku Helenius (Tampa Bay goalie prospect) said the Europeans seem to be better skaters and the Canadian/USA players better shooters (not so sure I agree with that). There are differences in the type of game the Europeans play (less shots, less physical) but other than that I don't see any difference. Enough of Don Cherry and his babbling!

The issue I have with Avery's idea of "marketing" is that if you start having "heels and faces" like pro wrestling does, then that opens the door to eventual scripting of things like, say, the playoffs. Either that _or_ you'll have guys engaging in cheap shots and thuggery in juniors, in the foolish hope that it will get them noticed by the NHL as some "marketable bad guy" type. Either possibility would be pretty bad for the NHL in the long term. :/

That, and he has no fashion sense at all. Of course, I say this as somebody who wears red and lime-green together so....

Hi Queen! great article. I generally loathe and detest Sean Avery, but I have to agree with him about the NHL's poor job of marketing and this:

It's topical, and I hate to say it, score another for Sean(No Peen) Avery! Sorry, I am one of the unschooled, unwashed hockey fans from western N.C. hence having no HTML skillz on the Devi'ls Box of Interp0rn.
