I was rather expecting that loss, given two things:
1) The WhalerCanes’ record at the Nexus of Evil (winless streak going back to 1989)
2) The continuation of the win-lose-win-lose-win-lose pattern that goes back about a month and a half.
I didn’t bother watching the video stream of the game–thanks, I already know that Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond are under a standing order to never say anything nice about my team as long as Pete Karmanos owns them. I don’t need to have it shoved in my face, and monitors (not to mention ER visits for gashed-up fists) are expensive to replace anyway. Of course, that little factoid didn’t stop other Hurricanes fans from watching it and commenting on the aforementioned never-saying-anything-nice. Really Mickey, bringing up Eric Staal’s bachelor party escapade? Can we be a little more bush league, please? Seriously, I’m wondering here.
So, I listened to ChuckandtheletterK while playing some World of Warcraft. Vented a little to my guildmates (who are mostly Sens and Oilers fans, for the record), went on a couple Shadow Labyrinth runs, and I felt better. Marginally.
And the Wings fans are still pretending they know me better than I do. Quelle grande surprise–at least they’re one up on the average fans of the Buffalo ASBOs in that most of them understand hyperbole when they encounter it.
And at least on Wednesday we’ll be playing a team with civilized fans.

Redmond actually defended the Staals in his comments.
Setting aside the fact that I didn’t say whether Mickey bashed the Staals or not–why bring it up at all? It was completely unnecessary, and still bush-league.
Sure it was AQ. He should have spent three hours focusing on the fact that the Hartford franchise hasn’t won in Detroit since ‘89. Honestly, I wish he would have. I find that much more entertaining.
I’m sure Cherry and Reaugh are bush league too, since they’ve both publicly defended the Staals.
Oh, I forgot. Redmond bringing up the Staal episode was all part of the mandated anti-Karmanos campaign. Right.
Whatever, Chief. Bringing it up after it had already been put to bed by the rest of the league was stupid and pointless and unnecessary and–ding ding ding!–bush league.
Wow, I was hoping for more of a recap than a paranoid rant. It was a really good game, very entertaining and fast-paced between two great skating teams.
The Canes are scary fast. I didn’t realize they were that speedy.
That Datsyuk goal was crazy. Wings fans are lucky to see that kind of stuff every game. He does a lot of cool things with the puck that don’t result in goals.
Erik Cole rules. Great player. I want him on the wings, he’s exactly what they need.
Was also very impressed with Staal and Ward. Staal played a pretty physical game. I had no expectations because I never get to see the Canes play but he stood out, and so did Ward. Ward made some very nice, difficult saves.
Wish we got to play all the eastern conf. teams more often, I’m glad the schedule’s changing.
Oh, and about Mitch Albom in the other post….keep him. Just keep him, I don’t care if you don’t want him. We’ll trade you Albom for Cole.
Paranoid rant? What do you think I am, a Sabres fan?
And no, you can’t have Cole.
Ha!
Damn.
Have you seen the promos for tomorrow game that say “Let’s Give the Senators a Lump from Cole” ??? Love that!
