Explain to me why the only black jersey the team has is one cut for very small women.

I’m a rather generously proportioned dude, and I would appreciate the chance to purchase a black jersey.

So, this thing cuts both ways.

Pink!? I scoff. Black? lucky women get one before I do.

Naive? Anal? Elitist? Excuse me? We’re grown women, not 8-year olds–we deserve a little respect as fans, and this misbegotten attempt at “marketing to the female demographic” is not at all respectful. If it was marketed specifically to tweens, that would be one thing–but it’s not. It’s marketed to all female age groups.

I suggest you go back and re-read our comments and the post before blapping on about elitism again, because that is possibly the worst ever wielding of that accusation that I’ve ever seen. Demanding a little respect is not elitist–it’s the right thing to do.

ohmygosh You guys are so naive….and anal. I have an 8 year old daughter and she would love one of these new ones. she begged for months for the pink sweater last year. She got it for Christmas. She could not wait to wear it to a game! She has, all this summer, worn it around the house pretending to be Eric Stall (her fav). How is this wrong or bad?! If the tweens and pre-tweens have the dough, and they want to wear something “hockey”, and the team stands to make some money, who the heck gives a rip? Come on… loosen up. This is a microcosm example of a larger problem and apparently many of you are guilty of it. It’s this same loser attitude that has chased many casual fans from hockey of the last twenty years. You will never rope in more fans if the lot of you continue with this “elitist” hockey attitude. As a fan of hockey since the first Icecaps season, if find this supposed “purist” attitude embarrassing.

What I really want to know…is does the NHL not realize that no one, but no one is going to believe “you’ll look cute cheering for your team in … etc., etc.,” when it comes in that close of proximity to Brind’Amour? (Kidding, I just couldn’t resist – but wow, those are spectacularly bad. At least you’ve avoided hearts thus far?)

The team’s colours are red and black. Not light pink and dark pink. What the hemorrhaging fuck is this? I’m willing to bet 98% of dedicated female hockey fans would much rather wear their team’s actual colours — you know, to support them and shit — than this travesty. I remember before the lockout, several teams (though not all) had more form-fitting jerseys and tees for the ladies. That’s cool. That’s great, actually. This? Guh. Excuse me while I vomit.

Okay, as I was saying. How is this anything other than a step backwards for feminism? I mean, Christ, in the 21st Century, shouldn’t women at least have the option of not wearing stereotyped colours? I mean, I like women in pink as much as most guys, but you just don’t do this. It…I…/sigh.

My guess is that the intended market for these shirts isn’t female hockey fans at all, but the cutesy-chick-type who’s looking for something “trendy” to wear– “Well, the NHL is sorta underground, and none of my friends can name any of the teams or players, so I’ll really look ahead of the crowd in this!”

You know, the same type of crowd that buys Ramones and CBGB’s t-shirts at Target.

You know, I just dont get what is so hard about offering jerseys in women’s sizes. Not pink jerseys, but TEAM jerseys. Why the hell would I want to wear a jersey that isnt even the team colors when I shell out a huge sum of money for tickets, 7 dollar beers, other overpriced food, and transportation?

Personally, I’m a fan of pink, but changing my team’s colors is something almost sacrilegious…
It would be different if part of the proceeds from the sale of the pink shirt would go to something like breast cancer research. Then I would be proud to wear something other than the team colors. But just to make money off a (horribly wrong) female stereotype? It’s just pathetic.
