Tell me this is a joke, Coach.
I can dig on not wanting to be all goony and stuff. That, I can see.
But no fighting period? Errr….Lavi, why not just put up a sign saying “OPEN SEASON ON THE HURRICANES”?
If I’m Bob Hartley, I’m salivating at this. Seriously. If I’m Derian Hatcher, I’m looking at this as a license to cheapshot everybody wearing the Sightless Eye–because that’s how Lavi’s comment will be interpreted by everyone even though anyone with half a clue knows that one doesn’t have to chuck knuckles to be physical.
(Cue the hockey equivalent of NASCAR fans in 5…4…3…2…1….)

And Todd Harvey turned the tide in the final? Must have missed that one.
Laviolette’s points are right on – guys like Cole are more valuable on the ice and the Canes don’t strike me as a team that can be pushed around.

Well yes–but it was foolish of him to advertise such a thing, because there are going to be the Averys and Orpiks of the world that’ll decide to take potshots because they know for sure that they won’t get an asskicking for it.
Of course, it would be very nice if said weenbags got smacked around in a legal, non-fighting sort of way.

Well … might be something to follow up on a few months down the road.
You and I both know the Canes, despite their rep as a finesse team, aren’t going to be pushed around.
The Oilers let LeGG go this summer (I liked him but good move I say – why carry a guy who is nailed to the bench) and I don’t see them getting pushed around.
Actually Thresen fought some guy tonight – the little Norwegian guy – I know I’ve seen your name on some threads relating to him so you know who he is.
Anyhow, I’d be interested in a follow up on this around Christmas or so. Methinks the Canes take their lumps, score on the PP while Avery et al sit in the box etc etc
But we’ll see.
actually the oilers seem to lack the neccessary grit this year. Thor is great but he would look much bigger if the Oilers had someone simular LeGG.
