As of this writing, Matt Cullen has been signed by the Rangers and Doug Weight went back to the Booze. I’ve heard rumblings that both guys really wanted to stay, but they were kinda left hangin’–whether through design or simply too much procrastination, I dunno.
Can’t say I’m overly surprised at either guy leaving (especially Dougie)–but I’m really starting to wonder what thought processes are going on at 1400 Edwards Mill Road, because it’s really starting to look like JimR is going a little too far overboard in his attempt to prevent a redux of the Season From Hell.
My guess? Somebody is going to get a payday. Either that OR there is something huge in the works–but that’s just my guess.
More tomorrow.

If the reports are right about how much both are making, I can’t blame the canes for letting them go.
I’m a little bummed that Cullen is gone, ’cause I kinda liked him.
JR has resigned all the core elements smartly. Procrastinating is not for the impatient. Weight could have waited ( ! ) a while more and chosen a better destination, but WTF he’s got his cup now. He’ll have to get used to playing on a team that rots again. By midseason he’ll be thinking why he wanted out in the first place.
Awesome new site BTW, in team colors and all. It will take a bit of getting used to things working differently. One thing that bugsme – isn’t there a pic somewhere of the Canes group pose where the cup is a little more front and center. Finding this one’s like playing where’s Waldo!
Losing Matt Cullen sucks, but for the money he’s getting, totally understandable on both sides. I also can’t believe the kind of money that Doug Weight is getting. The Blues are more than welcome to him for that amount.
What I believe JR is trying to do is be competetive without going crazy like the rest of the yo-yo’s out there. We suffered through the season that wasn’t for this? I think he’s done right by our guys without being stupid and hopefully we’ll soon hear that Cole is in the fold as well. It would also be fabulous to hear that A. Ward is coming back. Since he’s still available with a number of other serviceable defensemen still out there, I’m starting to hope that it will happen at a reasonable price.
I hate to see Matt Cullen leave as well, but I can’t blame Jimmy for not paying him that kind of money. Looks like the Rangers may be up to their old tricks.
