shootouts just plain suck ! My personal stats list OT wins, and OT make-believe(shootout) wins. I would much rather see the Zamboni drivers play a hand of texas hold-em' to settle a tie. At least that way those ice-jockeys would get to go on the road.

By the way, nice blog, I am adding you to my 'Hockey Groupie' links

I have no idea why shootout goals don't count on the stat sheet--but my guess is so that guys who only show up for the shootout can't go to arbitration and point to all their shootout goals and say "See? The GM should pay me $texas because I score a lot in shootouts!"

I could be wrong, but if I was right it wouldn't come as a surprise to me.

So, how do you really feel about shootouts?

I'll admit that they grab my attention, like fights do. But, like fights, they're a side-show.

I read someplace that the stats from shootouts don't count. That is, Stillman doesn't get credit for a goal for his shootout goal. If it's not a real goal, why does it affect the final score and, potentially, who makes the playoffs?

That doesn't change my point--a "less-talented" team that battles their way to a tie and winds up going to a shootout stands a pretty damn good chance of getting screwed over by a team that's got more firepower. How would you feel if the 'Canes fought their way to a tie with Detoilet, only to wind up getting pwned in a shootout?

And Palffy isn't a "pure goal scorer" any more than I'm the King of Siam. Seriously, dude--he's a lazy floater who occasionally puts the puck in the net. Think of him as Pavel Brendl, only with slightly less talent and a marginally better attitude.

That's funny, your reason for hating shootouts. The results of last night disproved that, I would say. Lemieux and Palffy are both pure goal scorers. Snipers, even. They were shut down. Stillman, who is more of a "playmaker" than a "sniper", but he came through.

Last night was an example of the team best suited for the shootout losing. Any given night.
