As a hardcore fan, I just don't get moved one way or another by the ad. It does seem WWF/WWEish to me, but it doesn't really move me to any rage...it just seems a little silly.

I know what the NHL is trying to do and I know it's not just ONE advertisement and one campaign...it's a constant effort to promote the game. I just hope the NHL works at the grassroots level as the best way to get more paying fans is to 1. get fans to the games and 2. get kids into hockey at an early age.

PS: Avery is teh bitch. Too bad Scott Stevens isn't around when you need him.

PPS: Don't expect many of Avery's teammates to come to his defense if he gets Bertuzzi'd

And as for the bloke—OK, I’ll admit that the League dropped the ball here, UNLESS the “customized” ads (myHurricanes, myPredators, myRangers, etc) are going to have players from that team. Which would be neat. They could always green screen ‘em in somehow. They can re-film it, they have the technology. Instead of using the bloke from the AXE body spray commercials, it’d be kinda cool to have like Darren McCarty/Rod Brind’amour/Vinny Lecavalier/whoever as the bloke in the dojo instead—then it would really feel individualized for each team.

Eggs-xactly.

I finally saw the MyNHL ad a few nights ago during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and other than my earlier complaint about it feeling like an Axe/Tag ad, I could not pinpoint why, but the ad *still* had a weird feel to me.

You pinpointed it...the ad(s) *does/do* need a player. Not some stupid model from the said men's fragrance ads.

Thank you!!
