I feel your pain (well, felt it). I live in NE Tennessee and people are still amazed when I tell them the Predators are an NHL team. I guess I live too close to Knoxville where the cops will give you directions to the UT campus if you ask for help getting to the hockey game (the Knoxville Ice Bears are an SPHL team).

I know what you mean about the marketing aspect. How can an entertainment company expect to stay afloat if they don’t promote their product? The Preds’ staff still does a great job of marketing the team. The Canes could learn something there.

Thanks much. I mean, the N&O guys try (with no help from their editordroids) and the Durham Herald-Sun does a decent job with their beat writer, but the print media coverage (in terms of how many people pay attention) pales in comparison to the TV outlets–who do us little to no justice (except for News14, and then it needs to be something sizable).

Hey AC,
Loved the rant. I’m glad to see another area where the media doesn’t cover their local teams unless they are winning and it gets the sports guys face time. I’m a Sharks fan and while the san jose area is a great hockey place, the rest of the bay area(San Fran) wouldn’t mention a word(Gary Radnich is a punk).
